SESSION 5

Urban planning for sustainable mobility

Room A3
15:15 – 16:45
Format: Keynote

To address the challenges of urban planning in the 21st century as a consequence of the paradigm shift that is taking place in the life of cities: from the city car- centred city to the people-centred city.

A movement that includes new practices oriented towards not only the physical form of the city but also those who inhabit it, making the built environment more vibrant, sustainable, inclusive and liveable places.

Each of the speakers in the roundtable will explain how mobility strategies and public policies translate and reflect in the local plans and other urban planning tools. There will be a review of urban planning and design techniques carried out in different geographies to reorient and transform cities to the new mobility models. This, in order to make a tour on what currently done and the future scenarios in line with the paradigm shift.

Urban development strategies and policies that promote alternative modes of transportation to cars: public transit, cycling, walking, among others, will also be addressed.
